The EU and China: 40 years of friendship

POLITICO, in cooperation with the Mission of China to the EU, published a report on 40 years of historic China-EU friendship.
This report explores the key areas of China-EU cooperation and discusses what we can look forward to in the future: bilateral investment flows; possibilities for future trade agreements; environment and climate cooperation; digital cooperation as well as interactions among the EU’s and China’s respective reforms.

The European Union and China currently have more than 60 fields of talks at all levels, actively involving the European Commission, the European Parliament the European External Action Service (EEAS).
2015 was a year of dialogue and celebrations, with the 17th EU-China Summit, the EU-China High Level Economic and Trade Dialogue (HED) and the High-level People-to-People Dialogue taking place in June and September.

Building on the traditional political, economic and people-to-people pillars, keywords that have emerged and today push the partnership forward are trade, investment and connectivity.
This year alone, the two sides signed a joint statement on mutual recognition of authorised economic operators at the China-EU Summit in June, China announced its intention to contribute to the Juncker Fund and a 5G agreement was signed in late September.
